Internet connection in Iran?

Hallo,

My name is Philipp and I’m a student from Germany. I study computer science in a city near Hamburg.
A few days ago our medias reported very briefly about problems with underwater internet traffic cables around Iran. They said that 4 cables have been cut by anchors of ships. We never heard about that in the news again.

I can’t believe that. I mean I never heard of problems with such cables for years and now 4 of them are cut by anchors within one week? I can’t believe that at all. What do you think is the reason for it?

I talked about this topic with some friends and we developed different theories about what might have happened. We would like to know how people in Iran think about it.

Do you think there might be a link to the Iranian oil bourse which should have opened through the Islamic Revolution (February 1-11, which is exactly the time of the “cable cutting”)? This project would perhaps harm the American economy… And they have submarines that are able to cut those cables…. Just a thought….
Also the Iranian oil bourse is not mentioned in our medias at all.

Do you have internet connectivity again right now? http://www.internettrafficreport.com/asia.htm shows that Iran is still “offline”…

I know this is a quite unusual way to discuss such a topic, but we would appreciate some short information.

Thank you in advance
