This script allows the user to bring 3D positions from 3DS Max to After effects, both static and animated. This is intended to be used for compositing footage or other 2d elements into your 3D scene in After Effects.

This script allows the user to bring 3D positions from 3DS Max to After effects, both static and animated. To use this script and have your imported position data match your scene correctly, you will need to import your camera from max into AE. The best way to do this is to render your image, or images as an .RPF file format. After Effects can read this information (using the rpf camera import) and create a 3D camera that matches your scene in AE. You can then paste the keyframe data (Generated by this script) onto any object in AE that has its 3D position enabled. It is important to make sure your camera settings in AE match your camera in Max. For a walkthrough please watch the demo video.

maxFX scene exports several types of objects from 3DStudio Max space to After Effects 3D space as Cameras, Lights or Placeholder objects. The script writes down the pivot point positions of the selected objects for every frame for Cameras and also for Lights and Placeholders (if Animated Lights\Placeholders checkbox is checked). The output file is a javascript file (*.jsx) which generates a composition containing all objects selected for export and converted to AFX's Layers.

Export the motion data of any object from 3D Studio to After Effects without rendering, postproduction tracking etc.

The quality is pretty bad, but you can get the idea (no sound due to bad english and microphone absence)

Workflow steps:

3D Studio Max :

1. Add the objects to use as motion trackers (Any object; The script gathers the pivot position of the object even if it's outside the camera FOV.)

2. Choose animation range and framestep (interval between motion tracker keyframes)

3. Tricky Part - for faster export isolate only the objects used as motion trackers.

4. Press "Write Data", select filename (*.jsx) and voila.. on to After Effects.

After Effects:

1. Create or Open a project and choose File -> Scripts -> Run Script File

2. Locate the script file (*.jsx), open it and wait for the calculations.

3. Now we have a new composition called "max2afx_...." which contains a single Solid object called... "max2afx"

4. The solid has a Motion Tracker with Tracker Points corresponding to each max object used for tracking

5. Tricky Part: Since AFX can use Motion Trackers only on Footage Items we must copy the Tracker from our "max2afx" solid to the desired Footage (watch out for the first frame of the tracking data, and the frame in which to paste the tracker)

6. With footage selected on the Tracker Controls Panel choose Motion Source to be our footage and the Track Type to whatever serves your needs.

7. For best results (in motion tracking at all) create a new null layer and apply the Tracker data to it (Tracker Controls Panel -> Motion Target -> Edit Target ). Now you can link any object to follow the null and in the same time transform that object anyway you like without affecting the tracked motion.

...and that's it.

You can check this link for a simple method of smoothing out the motion

this is my new script...it generate missing connection inbetween individual spline and also come with a tree generator as a bonus :)

It creates pages with 3 bend modifiers, (for turn animation, secondary motion and landing position) and binds them into a controller to easily turn pages.

Features

-Ability to define page count, page length, page width, segments, gap between pages and effect areas-max angles of benders.

-Ability to Randomize secondary motion

-Preview option, before actually binding every page.

-Ability to assign materials and image sequences as single or doublesided materials

-Ability to take apart all or some of the pages and provide them random directions.

Note that in preview option only one frame is keyed, and you control its motion scrubbing timeslider.

ActiveType 0.30

This script helps to quickly create objects or add modifiers. When assigned to a shortcut, it will pop-up an input box where you can type in the name of the object that you wish to create , or if you have a selection of objects, it will pop-up a list of applicable modifiers instead.

Notes:
Run the script file, it will create commands inside your "Customize User Interface" dialog called ActiveType and ActiveType Preferences under the category Terabyte
When running the script for the first time, the preferences window will pop-up. Here are the options:

Exit Text: If you type this text on ActiveType, it will exit the script. It is recommendable that you use the same character/text for your shortcut and your exit text
Box Width: The width of the ActiveType box.
Max Items: The maximum number of items that will be displayed.
Spaces as Wildcards: Will convert blank spaces (pressing the spacebar) into wildcards (*).
(0.30) Windows Start Menu Bar: If you have the start menu always visible, check this option to offset the ui size overflow.
Custom Colors: Set the colors for the pop-up UI.
(0.29) Open INI File: Opens the activeType.ini file found in your PlugCfg folder.
(0.29) Open Commands File: Opens the activeTypeCommands.ini file found in your PlugCfg folder.
This script is intended to be assigned as a short-cut using non-alphabetic characters. (Right now, it won't work inside the quad menu)
This will also save counters for each class that you select on the list, enablig the script to populate the list with the most commonly used classes first.
The script is using some dotNet controls, so it might lag the first time you run it.
To exit activeType, do one of the following:
Press Enter (will execute highlighted item)
Click on an item in the list (will execute the picked item)
Type in the "Exit Text"
Click anywhere outside the input box
Press the ESC button

User Commands
To enter user commands, type "#" as the first character.
To add more commands, edit the activeTypeCommands.ini found in the plugcfg folder.
Object Parameters
To list the paramters for the active modifier in the stack, type "." as the first character.
You can then press the TAB or ENTER key to complete the text. (You can also click the item)
Supported paramater classes are Integers, Floats, Strings, & Booleans.
Script Execution
To execute a one-liner script, type "=" as the first character.

Quick copy and paste Biped animation to another biped from one instance of max and paste them into another.
Additional Info:

This script method was inspired by Copy/Paste Obects by Christopher Grant.
It's not a TRUE copy/paste via the windows clipboard - but it will let you very quickly copy animation bip from one file to another.

Usage:
Select the biped objects with animation you want to copy. Run 'copy bip'. Now run the 'paste bip' into either the same file or you can load another instance of max and 'paste' animation bip into another biped.

Installation:
- Copy "BGtools-CopyPaste_Bip_Anim.mcr" to your \ui\usermacros.. max directory.
ie: C:\Documents and Settings\BG USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2009 - 32bit\enu\UI\usermacros .
Restart Max and you will find it under Customize >> CustomizeUserinterface, Category 'BG tools'.

- Or go to MAXScript>>Run Script... and select the file,
then find it under Customize>>CustomizeUserinterface, Category 'BG tools'.

- Click 'Copy Animation Bip to File' and Assign into keyboard, toolbars, Quads or menus
- Click 'Paste Animation Bip from File' and Assign into keyboard, toolbars, Quads or menus

Having a way to compensate for the (stupid) 24 material limit in 3D Studio is always a big request, so here's a script to do just that.

The script lets you create material "pages" each having 24 materials. You can then easily switch around the pages, which will bring the materials in the selected page to the Material Editor. Additionally you can rename pages and materials directly from the script and a simple search feature is included. The little dropdown control at the top will let you choose the kind of shader to use when creating a new page. I only included the ones I needed, if you need another one feel free to modify the code or ask below.

The material pages will be saved along with the file and they can be retrieved by launching the script again. Feel free to modify as needed and message me if there are any problems. Use at your own discretion =P.

After running the script you will find it under the "Medit Tools" category in Customize>Customize User Interface...

The Debris maker creates several types of debris quickly with user defined levels of detail, irregularity and chaos, and can create a particle flow with the geometry instanced into it.

This script is intended to be used for creating geometry for particle simulations or set dressing. It even can build a particle flow that has the newly generated objects loaded into it with some basic generation controls to save time.

A Simple Tool for speeding intial creation of fumefx. Also has some handing presets for the beginner and the casual effects artist.

BUG: Creating Fumefx Containers via maxscript breaks the preview window, unfotuantly i cannot fix this bug :(. The work around however (and im sorry is a little irratating), is the restart max after you have saved the max file.

What's new in version 0.4
[*] Now after running the utility automatically opens

What's about version 0.4.D
- It's just a DialogBox (particular) version

Installation:
Run the script from anywhere and you'll find it in the utility panel.
If you use macroScript installation just make sure
the .mse file is copied to the Max scripts directory.
For example: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009\scripts
Version Requirement: Tested on 3ds Max 2009 (but should work on 3ds Max 9 SP1 +)
