Dear all
Hereby we signatories of this letter announce:
- Our fully support for GNU/GPL and licensed softwares under related law
- Our abhorrence for misusing any GNU/GPL Licensed softwares without consideration of violator’s nationality
This topic is to announce Iranian support for GNU/GPL rules and released softwares under that.
As a warning to those People and Groups who has been/are trying to take advantages of mentioned products, they should know:
Any sort of softwares licensed under GPL ,should not be used as a base for a non GNU/GPL software package, even if the package use for intranet, it would consider as “ braking the license”.
No one is allowed to modify the software license in any case even for personal usage.
Creating a derivative work using an existing Free Open Source Project released under the GNU/GPL, that you offer again under the GNU/GPL, is another case and another case is the derivative work not to follow the GNU/GPL license guidelines but offered as a closed source commercial project , It is like stealing a car, change it's color and present it as yours.
The first case is totally legal. You can even charge for distribution cost (not sell the product itself. You could sell it, only if it was written totally by you from scratch.). GNU/GPL permits that. All you have to do is release it under the GNU/GPL, keep the code open and accessible, distribute code with the application and let people have access to your project. Let people know from where your project came.
The second case is illegal as it breaks the GNU/GPL. Especially in the case we are talking about, what was odd was that visiting sites, there was not a single word in English. That is very odd for a project that wants to call itself Open Source. How can people help you when they do not understand who you are and what are you asking. Unless, you do not want the project to be open source and try to hide things from public.
Anybody should know that; by breaking the GNU/GPL license the violators must be ready to face the consequences of the law.
The absolute majority of Iranian People is against such immoral and misbehaves regarding abuse of licensed products under GNU/GPL and condemns these kinds of activities.
In the case of misusing of Elxis, our members attempts conduced withdrawal of Violators and it made us convinced that having goodwill and cooperation among Open Source Community Worldwide would always be an effective way to confront Violators
It would be better if we mention GNU/GPL conditions and rules; every body can find the usage of it once again here in both Persian and English languages:
Persian : http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gpl
English : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gpl
Those who are in agreement with these cases, state their approval
Thank you
